My client, a market leader in tech and digital delivery, are seeking an experienced Pathway Lead for their Project Management and Business Analyst areas.

You will be responsible for the development of curriculum delivered for the government funded programmes on offer at this multi award winning ITP, as well as the successful achievement of apprentices on these programmes. This will be undertaken through Quality Assurance activity including: OTLAs, IQA, desk-based portfolio project work sampling and supporting CPD plans for staff and standardisation activity, as well as supporting the curriculum development by the trainers. This role involves the management of trainers delivering on these pathways.

You will work alongside the Service Delivery Managers to develop the quality of provision provided by the coaching team. You will be required to work closely with the Senior Business Coaches to develop an engaging, motivational and progressive curriculum and deliver to learners against this curriculum.

The main aims are to work closely with the coaches and trainers to establish effective ways of learning to improve learner progression, satisfaction and success rates in a timely manner. You will ensure that all End Point Assessment Organisations standards/ polices/ processes are maintained. You will also be required to monitor and ensure that completion rates for each subject area and for the contract overall meet those that are set by the company and the ESFA.

The Pathway Lead provides strategic and motivational leadership and direction of curriculum, teaching and learning strategies and to take overall responsibility for delivering outstanding success rates and high added value measurements for all learners. Whilst this is a strategic post, it is also a hands-on quality and management role.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development

  • Undertake the strategic planning of the curriculum across the training division in accordance with Just IT/Skills Team policy and programmes, maintaining oversight of all Quality Assurance process and their effective implementation.
  • Actively develop new initiatives and methodologies to impact candidates learning
  • In co-operation with the Quality and Service Delivery Directors, to ensure the team has current and future capacity and capability to deliver the planned curriculum.
  • Identify and achieve targets for all curriculum areas to achieve rapid improvements in underperforming areas and achieve above national average success rates in all areas.
  • Quality Assurance Activity

    • Develop and embed a standardised QA process for communicating with the Operations team on candidates for concern based on IQA activity
    • Sample apprentice portfolios in a timely manner at different milestones in the learner journey following the sampling strategy, where required

    Staff Development/CPD

    • Undertake observations of teaching learning and assessment of the business coaches/Trainers (in line with the OTLA strategy) and develop staff action plans as required
  • Support and develop staff in line with CPD and dedicated action plans. Advise on training and development plans for academic staff to develop and improve the planning, organisation and delivery of the curriculum
  • Hold regular standardisation meetings for all team members, sharing good practice and addressing any queries or concerns
  • Provide inspirational, innovative and dynamic leadership, motivation and management skills to ensure that staff meet or exceed agreed targets.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to raise standards of teaching and learning to outstanding and develop appropriate methodologies for inclusive and personalised learning including new technology.
  • Quality accreditations

    • Support the Head of Curriculum and Learning, and Head of Quality & Governance during any OFSTED and other associated inspections/accreditations.

    Relationship Management

    • Manage the instructor-led trainers
    • Manage the relationship with the respective EPAO Organisation Business Managers (or equivalent)
  • Liaise with the Quality and Support Services Manager and Service Delivery Team to ensure the effective timetabling of teaching and learning.
  • General quality duties

    • Support on the production of the SAR and QIP and produce coherent reports on topics as appropriate.
    • Ensure that strategies for learner retention and achievement are in place and implemented consistently and effectively, achieving higher standards year on year.
    • Involvement in general activities and other such duties as may be requested by the Quality Director

    Candidate Requirements


    • PGCE/Certificate in Education/PTTLS/DTLLS or A1/V1/CAVA/TAQA
    • Evidence of pursuing a programme of continuing personal development
    • Evidence of management experience
    • Successful and sustained record of developing systems and processes which have resulted in raising quality and improving teaching standards in a sustained way
    • Clear evidence of curriculum design and creation
    • Understanding the importance of Safeguarding issues
    • Significant leadership experience with a particular focus on quality gained in a wide range of subject areas and/or institutions.
    • Experience of leading a team through a successful Ofsted inspection (Good or Outstanding)
    • Experience of successfully implementing change
    • Previous successful experience of supporting staff and leading service delivery and improvement
    • Experience of representing and promoting an organisation in a variety of external contexts
    • Previous successful experience of producing timely high quality written and verbal reports


    • Holds own PMQ qualification as minimum (essential)
    • Holds a Business Analyst qualification (desirable)
    • Experience in the Project Management and/or Business Analyst sector (both industry and education)
    • Experience in delivering training for either Project Management or Business Analysis skills and knowledge (essential)
